Giving

As a not-for-profit independent school, The College School receives no federal or state funding and must rely on the financial support of parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, alumni, grants, foundations, corporate donors, faculty, staff and friends.  Our charitable support primarily comes from annual giving, annual auctions and periodic capital campaigns.  And, as our tuition covers only 90% of the school's annual operating budget, this giving becomes critical for the success of The College School's learning community.

The Annual Fund

The Annual Fund is a form of voluntary financial support practiced by independent schools everywhere.  In past years we have raised as much as $198,000 in our Annual Fund Campaign, with participation at 100% for Board, Faculty and Staff, and 95% for parents. Funds raised support all of the programs that directly benefit our students, such as enhancing curriculum, supporting faculty professional development and helping to provide a quality, safe, and well funded outdoor education program.  Parent participation is essential to balance the school's annual budget, and, in turn, keep tuition affordable for all families. Each fall families are asked by an Annual Fund Class Captain (a TCS volunteer) to contribute to the Annual Giving Fund at one of the following levels:

  • Visionary -- $10,000 and up
  • Adventurer -- $5,000 to $9,999
  • Trailblazer -- $1,375 to $4,999
  • Pathfinder -- $500 to $ 1,374
  • Pioneer -- Up to $499

You may pledge your gift immediately, and payment can be made anytime prior to May 31 by check, credit card, electronic bank transfer or a monthly installment plan. Gifts can be made in the form of cash, stocks, corporate gift contributions, matching fund programs, foundations, planned giving, memorials and tributes. Unlike tuition payments, Annual Giving gifts are tax deductible. Our parents recognize that Annual Giving is an essential part of their commitment to The College School and give generously each year.

Capital Campaign

TCS’ Board of Trustees has developed a comprehensive master campus plan that will serve our students, families and the St. Louis community for many years to come.  Your gift to this campaign will ensure learning at TCS remains meaningful, real and exciting and TCS continues producing confident young leaders with a passion for lifelong learning.

Endowment, Tributes and Memorials

One of the most gratifying experiences a donor can have is making a gift in honor or memory of a loved one.  TCS has always accepted gifts in honor or memory of its alumni, past parents, grandparents and friends.  With this tax deductible memorial or tribute gift, we will send a note to the family or person being honored or memorialized.  These are lasting tributes to family and friends whose legacies will live on with TCS.

Planned Giving

Planned Giving is a program for donors to make a contribution to TCS through various financial means, including but not limited to:

  • Appreciated Securities
  • Retirement Plans
  • Life Insurance
  • Real Estate and Personal Property
  • Bequest through a will or revocable trust

The College School is a thriving academic community. Through continued financial support, donors enable us to maintain and enhance an educational experience that will enrich our students for a lifetime.
