Fitness & Wellness
The College School believes that children need to develop healthy lifestyle habits to best grow, learn and thrive. These practices help students fully engage in all academic opportunities and contribute to a positive learning environment. Here are a few ways that The College School supports and promotes children's health and wellness:
- Walking School Bus - our physical education teacher, Dave Dunkman, designs walking routes for groups of parents and students to walk to school. Whether the distance is one mile or ten, children get a great morning or afternoon workout and save fossil fuels;
- Local Lunch Tuesday - every Tuesday, in conjunction with SLU's Dietary Department, we offer students a local soup and salad lunch, with all ingredients being grown within a 50 mile radius of St. Louis.
- Girls on the Run - the nationally recognized "Girls On The Run" program is offered to students, grades three through eight. Teachers and parents are the mentors and coaches to the girls as they gain self-esteem by training for a 5K race;
- Healthy Foods - healthier food choices are available during school-wide celebrations and gatherings. We've also hosted workshops to encourage families to pack healthy lunches;
- TCS Sports - a variety of co-educational sports teams, such as flag football, soccer and basketball, meet after school throughout the year as part of the after school program;
