AccoladesWe are very proud of all of our students, alumni, faculty, administrators, board members, parents, and friends. More specifically, we are proud of The College School and proud to be members of this dynamic learning community. We like to temporarily highlight the accolades of the members of our community.
Recent News- Summer of 2010 we purchased 28 acres of land in Pacific, MO in the LaBarque Watershed. The land will enhance our science and adventrue programs, as students take their studies to the field. We are excited to develop our curriculum to integrate with the land.
- We recently completed construction of a greenhouse and gardens area on our campus, which will allow students to explore horticultural sciences in a hands-on way. Already, the students have planted and harvested a fall garden. Many of the vegetables grown were the ingredients for soups they prepared for the school-wide Thanksgiving Feast.
- Our new "green" parking lot was a featured project in a news conference hosted by Congressman Russ Carnahan titled Mainstreaming Green. The conference addressed "green" initiatives underway in communities all over the country, including St. Louis.
- In Spring 2006, our fourth grade class received a Conservation award from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for exceptional volunteer service at Pere Marquette State Park.
Current Students- On average, over 60% of sixth grade students each year are recognized by Duke University's Talent Identification Program, which commends the top 5% of students in a ten-state region based on their performance on standardized testing. Our students take the ERB Comprehensive Assessment Test to qualify for the national award program. Students recognized by Duke are offered the opportunity to take the SAT or ACT with high school students.
- In May 2007, our sixth and seventh grade field hockey players, on a Gateway Field Hockey Team, won their league's championship title.
TCS Alumni- Over 95% of our graduates are accepted at their first-choice high schools. Students have a wide range of educational choices for grades 9-12 in St. Louis. On average, one-third of our graduates attend independent secondary schools ( e.g. John Burroughs, Whitfield), one-third attend parochial high schools (e.g. SLUH, Nerinx, Cor Jesu, Ursuline, Rosati-Kain) and another one-third enroll in public high schools (Clayton, Ladue, Webster, Kirkwood, primarily). In the past three years, the majority of our public school entrants enrolled in the Clayton and Ladue school districts, which are ranked among the top public high schools in the nation.
- In a recent alumni survey, 95% of respondents strongly agreed that The College School prepared them well for their futures.
- Among a recent alumni group starting their first year of college this fall, we have a student at Princeton University, who was awarded a Princeton Social Justice Award for his work in high school, the valedictorian of Kirkwood High School (also a National Merit Finalist), and a Division I swimmer and engineering major at Vanderbilt University.
