Financial Information
We know that an independent school tuition can be expensive for any family. We also believe it is one of the most important investments you and your family will ever make. To help make our program be more affordable, The College School offers need-based financial aid to qualifying families.
Families applying for financial aid should:
- Obtain a "School and Student Service for Financial Aid" (SSS) packet from the school. Your SSS application will be processed through a branch of the National Association of Independent Schools. If you are applying to more than one independent school, you should only complete this form once. Your SSS report can be shared with multiple schools, as long as you provide SSS with the relevant school codes. (Note: Some schools may be using an alternate financial aid service, so it's best to check with each school directly to learn their procedures.)
- Complete the SSS application online or fill out the paper application and submit it to SSS directly.
- Provide our Business Office with a copy of the first two pages of your 2009 Federal Form 1040. We realize that tax forms are typically prepared at the beginning of the year after W-2's and other tax reports are received by families. We will require this information, however, to complete your financial aid file.
- Complete and return our brief financial aid questionnaire to our Business Office.
We can only award financial aid grants once a student is accepted and his/her financial aid file is complete. Financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. We do our best to accommodate all families who qualify for aid.
Aid awards vary across families and can cover up to 40% of tuition. We are not able to offer 100% tuition grants.
After being accepted to The College School, students receiving an aid award will receive an award letter from our Business Office. Families can choose to accept the award by signing and returning the letter with their enrollment contract.
Diversity Scholarship Awards
Students who meet NAIS diversity criteria can also be eligible for diversity scholarship grants. These grants supplement need-based financial aid for families. The intent of these awards is to enhance the diversity of our school community. Students in the following groups are eligible for diversity scholarship funds: Asian, African-American, Latino/Hispanic, Multi-racial, Native American, and International.
Families do not need to apply separately for Diversity Scholarship consideration. Diverse students are considered automatically for these grants by our Financial Aid and Diversity Committees.
Annual Renewal of Financial Aid
Financial aid needs to be renewed each year, as the pool of families receiving aid shifts over time. Students graduate and new students enter the program. Sometimes, family financial circumstances change considerably (e.g. job loss, etc.) As a result, we ask families to re-apply for aid each school year.
