Board of Trustees
The College School is overseen by a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees. Their primary responsibilities include:
- The school's financial well-being.
- Hiring, supporting and evaluating the Head of School.
- Establishing major school policies.
- Maintaining and updating the school's long range strategic plan on a regular basis.
The Board consists of approximately 18-22 members, including one faculty representative and the president of the Parent Organization. The majority of the Board's work is conducted through eight sub-committees that meet monthly, including: Executive, Trustee, Buildings and Grounds, Diversity, Personnel, Communications, Finance, and Development. The Head of School meets monthly with members of the Executive Committee, to discuss the upcoming Board agenda, personnel issues and other school matters between Board meetings.

Cap Grossman
Board President
Cap was born and raised in St. Louis. He attended St. Louis Country Day School and graduated in 1970. Cap went on to Yale University where he obtained a BA in American Studies while lettering in Varsity Baseball. Upon graduating in 1974 Cap joined his family’s business, Grossman Iron & Steel Company, which was founded in 1920 by his grandfather. Today the company is one of the largest processors and recyclers of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal in the Midwest. Cap has led the company as its President since 1985 and has teamed with his brother, Skip, to grow Grossman to its current size. Outside of the scrap industry Cap has been an active member of The Young Presidents Organization for twenty years, serving in several leadership positions. In 1992 Cap married Jennifer. Their son, Jack, currently is a member of the class of 2012. In 2005 Cap was asked to join the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees for TCS, and in 2006 he was elected to the Board as a Trustee. Last year Cap was elected and currently serves as President of the Board. In 2006 Cap and Jennifer also served as Co-Chairs of the Capital Campaign for TCS. Whenever they can, Cap, Jen and Jack head to their vacation home in Colorado where they ski, fish, hike, bike, ride horses and, most of the time, just hang out on the porch.
